I started a job late 2022. When open enrollment happened, I lost Medi-Cal and moved onto a Covered California plan that started Jan 1, 2023. I am chronically ill and disabled, and Medi-Cal could not give a damn about my health, honestly. With the Covered CA plan, I got on the road to appropriate testing, actual diagnoses, and proper meds. Healthnet is fine if you are set with your doctors and don't expect to increase services (ie needing specialists, having kids, expanded mental health etc). Blue shield has a wider network so it's easier to find what you need. Healthnet was great when I was single in my 20s, and just needed a primary care doctor and maybe 1 urgent care visit a year. It is income based, not asset based. You can have $100,000 in the bank and if they are paying you only $1000 a year in interest on it then that is your income and you would qualify for Medical.
