For years now I have been meaning to develop an exercise index for the Universal Saxophone Method, by Paul DeVille. Over the past month I have finally gotten around to doing so. As an instructor I often use the Universal Method with my advancing students.

The normal (as far as I know) black nickel saxophone finish is an extremely thin layer of actual plating, probably the thinnest of all platings used in sax finishes. Middle D is a problem for a lot of saxophones. It can be very sharp (10 to 20 cents) and can be "stuffy." To flatten it out you can hold the left hand pinky B or Bb key.
